Number Field Shortcuts

There is more to the number field than it first appears.

You can always click into the field and type a new value, but number fields also include several shortcuts that make editing faster, especially when you are adjusting dimensions, positions, offsets, or repeated values.

Basic Controls

| Arrow Up | Increase the value |
| Arrow Down | Decrease the value |
| Right Click | Copy the current value to your clipboard |
| Ctrl + V | Paste a value from your clipboard |

These are useful when you are making small adjustments or copying the same measurement between fields.

Add or Subtract From the Current Value

Press A while using a number field to open an additional adjustment field.

This lets you add to or subtract from the current value without doing the math separately.

For example, if the current value is:

25

You can press A, enter:

10

And the value becomes:

35

Or enter:

-5

And the value becomes:

20

This is handy when you know how much something needs to move, but do not want to calculate the final number yourself.

Invert the Current Value

Press I to invert the current value.

For example:

25

Becomes:

-25

And:

-40

Becomes:

40

This is especially useful when duplicating something from one side of a design to the other.

For example, if a part is positioned at 25 on the right side, inverting the value to -25 can place the matching part on the left side.

Switch Units

Some number fields show the current unit next to the value.

| Unit Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| MM | Click to switch to imperial |
| IN | Click to switch to metric |

So if the field is currently showing MM, clicking it switches the value display to inches.

If the field is currently showing IN, clicking it switches the value display to millimeters.

Once you get used to these shortcuts, number fields become much faster to work with than typing every value by hand.
